Our Canada Photo Tour, is one of our most demanded and successful trips, with several confirmed departures for 2024 and 2025 (check list above). During two full weeks, we’ll take you through some of the most spectacular locations on Earth, in the incredible Canadian Rockies. A dream destination for any landscape photography lover, home to amazing blue and turquoise lakes, stunning peaks and lovely wildlife.
On this trip, we will be visiting the extraordinary Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks, among the most stunning areas around the whole world. Few places feature so much photo potential as the Canadian Rockies does. For many, this is the top destination on Earth for landscape photography. Thanks to that, we will be able to capture extraordinary images during every single day on the trip. Furthermore, we will have the great advantage of not needing to drive very long distances to move between locations; we’ll constantly enjoy the outstanding views and spots of this marvelous region.
On the other hand, we will be probably able to capture the first snowfalls of the year, together with the last fall colors. This will allow us to get incredible photos, and even photograph several of these amazing locations under very different conditions. We are true experts in the whole area, knowing the region perfectly after many trips through the years, something that will bring us the best possibilities to capture wonderful pictures. At the same time, the workshop is organized by our own travel company for photo lovers, which counts with the official license and permits to host photography tours in these National Parks. Everything will be ready to bring you the most fabulous experience, allowing you to photograph the most spectacular sceneries while you improve your photography.
This Canadian Rockies photo tour will be mainly focused on landscape photography, although we’ll be also practicing wildlife and night photography.
In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, we will photograph unbelievable scenes, including pristine blue glacial lakes, stunning peaks, up to almost 13,000 feet/4,000 meters, fantastic falls, fabulous forests, impressive canyons, magical glaciers or surreal panoramic views. Anywhere in the area, we’ll find something photography worthy, so we’ll make the most from every single day of the trip.
Among these locations, we may highlight the incredibly precious lakes in the Rockies, each one with its particular color, from turquoise to emerald green, or intense blue. All of them will bring us extraordinary photo opportunities. Sometimes, we’ll be even able to photograph perfect reflections of the surrounding peaks on the water. We can highlight lakes such as Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake, Lake Louise, Emerald Lake or Maligne Lake. Taking wonderful pictures will be very easy at places like these.
Other incredible locations we’ll photograph include Athabasca Falls, Natural Bridge, Sunwapta Falls, Johnston Canyon, Athabasca Glacier or Morant’s Cruve, among dozens of spots with mesmerizing views of rivers, creeks, or glaciers, always, surrounded by the stunning Rockies.
Besides, we’ll also focus on wildlife photography. The area is home to elk, deer, coyotes, bald eagle, bighorn sheep, moose and both black and grizzly bears. Elk and deer will be quite easy to find, and we know some locations with very high chances to spot moose. We’ll be searching for all these species every day during the trip, so we’ll be able to photograph many of them.
Finally, due to the low light pollution, we’ll have excellent conditions to try some night photography sessions, surrounded by those amazing sceneries. If lucky, we might even be able to photograph the Northern Lights!
We strongly believe that late September/early October (as well as mid to late October) is one of the best seasons for a Canadian Rockies photo workshop. At this time of the year, we have several advantages that will offer us the best possible photo opportunities.
By one hand, during this period, we will probably be able to photograph some of the first snowfalls of the year. Imagine those already incredible places, covered by snow… we would get endless photo opportunities! Undoubtedly, ideal conditions for landscape photography. At the same time, the lakes will still not be totally frozen. This way, we’ll be able to capture the amazing colors of these lakes, with the snowy sceneries around us. Besides, we might be finding the great ice structures formed by the lakes shorelines, when they begin to get frozen.
On the other hand, we might still be able to enjoy and photograph the late fall colors in some of the areas we visit during the trip. The yellowish and reddish tones in the trees will certainly add special beauty to the scenes around us.
Furthermore, during these weeks, most of the roads and locations will still be open, meaning that we’ll still be able to visit almost all the top locations in the Rockies. Obviously, this also means that the area will be more crowded than in November and the winter months, but photographing the lakes at this perfect time of the year will be totally worth it.
Regarding wildlife, this will be also one of the best times of the year for it. Elk, deer and moose will look at their best during the rutting season, their breeding yearly season. This means we’ll probably have great chances to photograph these species in action.

Finally, we’ll drive to some of the mountains around town, enjoying the mesmerizing views of the valley from above.
We’ll stay in the area until it’s totally dark, when we’ll go back to our accommodation to sleep.
Today, we’ll wake up early for our first sunrise session of the trip, by Two Jack Lake. We’ll make sure to arrive early, to be ready to shoot the first lights of the day, as they illuminate the area. Again, we will have the stunning Mount Rundle in the background. If lucky, we could enjoy great reflections on the mount over the lake, in case there is no wind.

Certainly, one of the most beautiful places you’ll have ever seen and photographed.
We’ll make sure to make the most from this visit, so we’ll stay plenty of time by the lake. During the visit, we’ll head to its most picturesque spots, both by the lake and from the nearby rockpile. We will wake up early to photograph our last sunrise in Banff, for what we’ll get to Vermilion Lakes. This area is formed by three different lakes, with plenty of possibilities for photography. We’ll get to the best locations around them, searching for logs, rocks and bushes to include as the foreground in our compositions. All this, with the incomparable Mount Rundle in the background.

Some of the places we’ll be photographing by the Icefields Parkway are Bow, Peyto and Waterfowl Lakes, Athabasca Glacier and Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls. At the same time, we’ll have chances to spot wildlife anywhere on the route. So many possibilities, that we’ll capture hundreds of pictures during this day.
Depending on our schedule and the conditions, we’ll photograph sunset by Sunwapta Falls, or at one of the lakes in Jasper.
After the sunset session, we’ll get to our accommodation to rest after an intense day of photography.
Today, we will go to Patricia Lake for sunrise. For the afternoon, we will take the boat excursion to Spirit Island (not included in price), one of the most mythical locations in Canada (not available for the mid October group). Already during our boat tour, we’ll enjoy fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. However, once we are at the island, we will be able to photograph one of the most beautiful views in Canada. Sadly, we’ll be only able to stay for around a quarter of an hour in the area, but it will be enough to capture wonderful images of this landmark.
Once we get back to the shoreline, we’ll keep searching for wildlife, until the sun is lower. For sunset, we’ll get back to the shoreline, where we will photograph the impressive mountains as the setting sun illuminates the scene.
We’ll drive back to town after blue hour, to recover after a full day of photography.
Once again, we’ll wake up early for sunrise, getting back to Patricia Lake, but this time visiting a different area at this lake. One more time, if lucky, we will be able to photograph the reflection of the stunning Pyramid Mountain on its water.
Afterwards, we will have breakfast, and drive East to explore a different area around Jasper National Park. During this visit, we’ll get to Talbot and Jasper Lakes, two amazing lakes with, one more time, unbelievable views of the surroundings. At the same time, we will have good chances to spot wildlife, such as elk, bighorn sheep or bald eagle.
Later, we will drive the Maligne Lake Road, heading to Medicine Lake. By the lake, we can often spot bighorn sheep, so we’ll be ready to photograph then. Before sunset, we will get down to the lake shoreline, from where we will capture the last lights of the day.
Once it’s totally dark, we’ll get back to our accommodation to rest.
This will be our last sunrise in Japer, for what we’ll get to Cavell Lake and Angel Glacier again, this time capturing the area under the dawn light.
Following this, we will begin our way South trough the extraordinary Icefields Parkway. Same as when coming in, we will spend the whole day exploring the route, stopping by some of the most incredible locations around it. We will visit some of the spots we might have missed on our previous drive, and will also get back to others, searching for different conditions on them.
After getting to Abraham Lake during the afternoon, East to the parkway, we’ll drive to Peyto Lake for sunset, enjoying one of the most famous views in the Rockies. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most beautiful lakes by the Icelfields Parkway, and will bring us extraordinary photo opportunities. We’ll stay here until it gets dark, when we’ll continue our drive to Lake Louise Village.
We will wake up early today to photograph one of the most visited and impressive locations of the trip, the world famous Lake Louise. Here, we will be able to photograph the lake from its shoreline, with the spectacular Victoria Glacier and surrounding mountains in the background. Often, we can find no windy conditions at sunrise by this picturesque lake, so we may get wonderful reflections of the mountains in the background.
Later, we will get to the famous Morant’s Curve, where we’ll wait for some of the trains crossing the area. You’ll have probably seen hundreds of images from this scenic point, and now you’ll be the one having the chance to photograph this marvelous view.
After this visit, we will head to Herbert Lake, a precious small lake with mesmerizing views of the mountains in the surrounding. We’ll be exploring its shoreline, which brings endless possibilities for amazing compositions, due to the presence of rocks and stones.
Finally, we’ll drive to Moraine Lake (only available during the mid October group). This will be our second visit to the lake, but it will be, again, totally worth it. We are probably talking about the most spectacular destination in the Canadian Rockies. Therefore, we’ll stay photographing the location during the rest of the day. For sunset, we’ll capture the view of the Ten Peaks from the rockpile, with the sun setting over the stunning peaks. After that, we’ll stay by the lake for a night photo session.
Afterwards, we will get back to our accommodation to rest, although we’ll check the conditions for another possible night photography session, when we would get to Herbert, Louise or Peyto Lakes.
Today, we’ll wake up earlier, to get to Peyto Lake area for sunrise. Peyto is another of the most amazing lakes we’ll visit during this Canada photo tour, and we’ll probably get some snow by its viewpoint. Anyway, we will rewarded with unbelievable views of the surroundings. From this location, we will be able to capture dozens of great photographs, so we’ll have plenty of time in the area.
After visiting Peyto, we’ll head to the nearby Waterfowl Lakes, where we’ll photograph different locations around these two lakes.
In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Yoho National Park, in the British Columbia province. Here, we’ll visit a wonderful section of the Kicking Horse River, known as Natural Bridge, where we’ll photograph precious waterfalls along the river. Truly an incredible spot for photography!
Finally, we’ll move to another of the most beautiful lakes in the Rockies, Emerald Lake. For the rest of the day, we will explore its shoreline, searching for rocks and logs to include in our compositions. We’ll check different areas around the lake, allowing you to capture lots of fantastic images. This will be our sunset location, but we’ll stay here until it’s totally dark, so we can capture lovely blue hour images around the lake.
As always, we’ll wake up early, this time to get back to Moraine Lake, for another sunrise session by the lake (not available for the mid October group). One more time, we will get fantastic photo opportunities during our session.
Afterwards, we’ll get again to Morant’s Curve, before driving the Bow Valley Parkway until Castle Junction, searching for possible wildlife.
In the afternoon, we’ll get back to the Icefields Parkway, where we’ll photograph Mosquito Creek, and then Peyto Lake again. This time, we’ll photograph Bow Lake by sunset and blue hour. Depending on conditions, we might stay longer in the area, for some night photography at this spectacular scene.
After our session, we’ll get back to our accommodation at Lake Louise Village.
Today, we will be getting back to Emerald Lake, this time to photograph sunrise. Again, we will be enjoying from infinite photo possibilities, as we capture the first rays of sunlight illuminating the enchanting scenery. Apart from being an incredibly beautiful location, it’s quite usual to find mist over the lake during the morning, which would add special magic to an already unbelievable location. Anyway, we’ll make sure to make the most from this visit.
Once we leave the lake, we’ll stop again by Natural Bridge, to photograph the fantastic water falls under different light conditions. Before returning to Lake Louise, we will stop by other areas of the wonderful Kicking Horse River, capturing the lovely blue tones on its water.
In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Castle Mountain, to photograph the stunning mountain from the Bow River, while we search for wildlife during our way.
Finally, we will get to Lake Louise for sunset, photographing the incredible scenery around us from the shoreline. We’ll stay by the lake until it’s totally dark, being able to capture lots of great images of this unique place.
For our last sunrise session around Lake Louise village, we will head to Bow Lake to photograph twilight and sunrise, with the impressive Crowfoot Mountain in the background.
After our session, we’ll drive back to Banff, where we will photograph Cascade Pond, a beautiful pond which often offers perfect reflections of Cascade Mountains. If lucky, we might also enjoy some of the late fall colors, bringing us fabulous photo opportunities.
Following this we’ll visit the beautiful Bow Falls, before getting into the golf course area, looking for the many elk that can be usually spotted around it. Hopefully, we will get chances to photograph these beautiful animals.
Then, we’ll take the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain (not included in price). Once on the top, we will be rewarded with outstanding views of Banff and the surroundings. The color of the Bow River from here is totally amazing.
Finally, we will drive to the Vermilion Lakes area, where we’ll spend the rest of the day. We’ll be exploring the most spectacular spots around these three lakes, waiting for the last lights of the day. Once it’s totally dark, we’ll get back to our accommodation.
Today, we will get up early for our last sunrise session, in Canmore. This time, we’ll get to a wonderful location, by a section of Bow River, from where we’ll photograph the impressive surroundings, with the famous Three Sisters peaks in the background.

Calgary International Airport, Calgary, Canada (Google Maps)
We recommend you to bring a DSLR or Mirrorless system camera with interchangeable lenses, but you can join the photo tour bringing any kind of camera, including compact ones, or even a smartphone.
A wide angle lens will be probably the most useful lens to capture the amazing landscapes in the Canadian Rokcies. It will be great if it’s also a fast lens (f/2’8 or faster), for the night photography sessions.
An standard zoom, like a 24-70mm, or a 24-105mm, will be very useful on this trip. With that focal length range, you will be able to capture a great variety of the scenes we’ll find.
A telephoto lens like a 70-200mm will be very useful on this trip. It will be perfect for capturing distant scenes, like peaks or mountain views, as well as for photographing the wildlife we may find along the roads.
If you have a long telephoto lens, such as a 400mm f/2’8, or a 500 or 600mm f/4, you could bring it for the trip, as it would bring you spectacular wildlife images. A good alternative would be a zoom kind of a 150-600mm.
A tripod will be needed for our low light photography sessions, such as the sunrise, sunset and night photography ones. We recommend you bringing a really sturdy one, so it’s not easily moved by the wind.
We recommend you bringing ND filters for long exposure photography, as well as graduated ND filter for sunrises and sunsets. A polarizer filter will be very useful too, to add saturation or avoid reflections.
Bringing a remote or an intervalometer will be a great idea, because they will be very useful in low light sessions, avoiding the need to touch the camera, and therefore minimizing the risk of moved images.
Bringing enough extra batteries is essential for a trip like this. Given the cold temperatures, batteries will run much faster than usual. Therefore, you should bring enough batteries to avoid running out of energies.
We also recommend you bringing enough memory cards so you can store all the pictures you will take during the trip, or even doing security copies. Given their low price, it’s better to carry extra cards.
This Canadian Rockies Photo Tour is recommended for anyone, no matter the age or the physical level. According to the physical requirements, this can be considered an easy trip, with no minimum requirements to join us. Most of the photo locations are located just a short walk from the places where we’ll park. We will be doing some longer hikes to get to some photo locations, but all of them will be easy and not long at all. Therefore, you’ll be welcome to join us if you are able to hike for short distances with no effort.
At the same time, there isn’t age limits for the tour, as well as your health and conditions are reasonably good.
There is no need of a minimum photography level to join this Canada Photo Tour. You don’t need to be a professional photographer to come to this trip, nor even having a lot of experience with your camera. All our photo tours are open to all levels, even for beginners, or unexperienced photography users. Sometimes, we even have people just taking shots with their smartphones.
One of our highlights is providing customized attention, so we will help you to get the best possible images, regardless your previous level. We’ll be there to help you becoming a better photographer!
During this Canada Photo Tour, we can expect quite cold temperatures most of the time. For the late September group, we can even have some mid to warm moments during the daytime, but at dawn and dusk, as during the night, it will be really cold. Then, for the mid October group, temperatures will be quite colder, even during the day. Average temperatures during this period are normally around 26º to 44º Fahrenheit (-3º to 7º Celsius). However, at some of the night and sunrise sessions, we could get temperatures around 10º Fahrenheit (-12º Celsius), or even lower! At the same time, snow will be quite possible during this trips.
Due to this, you need to be perfectly prepared for the trip. You will need a good down jacket or parka, as warm as possible. We also recommend dressing in layers, so you can add or remove layers depending on the temperature. Simultaneosly, a Gore Tex jacket or similar would be great for the snowy moments. Mountain and/or snow boots would be perfect for most of the time. Once you confirm your booking, you will also receive a guide withe the recommended gear list for this Canada Photo Tour.
This Canada Photo Tour, as most of our trips, doesn’t include meals (breakfast, lunch or dinner). This will give us maximum flexibility during the trip, in order to focus mainly in the most important thing: photography. Normally, we will be having breakfast in the hotel or in cafes near the area, before or after our sunrise shooting session (depending on timing). For lunch, sometimes we’ll be stopping at restaurants, but other times we’ll be buying food at supermarkets (fruit, snacks, sandwiches, etc…), and doing a picnic or even eating in the vehicle/s. Then, we will have dinner at the hotel or in town.
However, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the fabulous food in Canada. Both fish, as salmon and trout, and meat, like the buffalo sirloin or the tenderloin, will be delicious options!
Currently, the main payment option we have is the bank transfer. However, if you prefer it, we also have other payment options, such as credit or debit card, PayPal or Transferwise. Please notice that these other payment options may apply a commission fee. You can ask us about these different payment options.
If you choose to pay by credit or debit card, or by PayPal, you can process your payment online, when you finish the booking process. For bank transfer payment, you just have to proceed with the booking and then, once you finish the process with the chosen payment method, you’ll receive an email with al the instructions and bank details.
During this Canadian Rockies Photo Workshop, we’ll be normally staying in 3 or 4 star hotels, or in lodges. Each traveller will be staying in a double twin shared room, shared with another participant of the tour. Rooms will always include a private bath.
If you come with another person to the trip, you’ll share the room, However, if you are traveling alone, we’ll choose a roommate for you between the other participants in the trip (always same genre). Anyway, you will also have the chance to choose a single room for you, paying an extra supplement. Contact us for all details.
Anyone can join this Canada Photo Tour, no matter your country of residence. Our main travel agency is settled in Santander, Spain, but our trips are open to customers from countries all around the world. Therefore, we may have clients from different places in our photo tours.
This Canada Photo Tour will begin at Calgary International Airport, in Canada. Therefore, all the participants need to be there at the first day of the tour, getting there from their country of residence, and there is no need to travel to a particular town to meet the group before getting to Calgary.
Once you have confirmed your booking for this Canada Photo Tour, we will send you the trip info with a recommended gear PDF guide. This will include suggestions not only about the photography gear, but also about the clothes and accessories you might need during this photo tour. To sum up, you won’t have to worry about anything, since our expert photo leaders and guides will inform you about everything you will need, so you can enjoy your travel as much as possible!
As a first tip, we would suggest you bringing a light color down or shell jacket (for example red, orange, yellow, light green, etc…). That jacket will protect you from the cold and the rain but, at the same time, you’ll look great when photographed in some of the most beautiful locations around all Canada!
