What to photograph during this Slovenia Photo Tour?

This trip is designed to capture the essence of Slovenia, from the iconic Lake Bled to the serene Fusine Lakes, passing through hidden waterfalls and charming rural chapels. During the 8 days of the Slovenia Photo Tour, we will explore Slovenia’s varied geography, ensuring that each participant returns with a diverse portfolio rich in alpine landscapes, reflections in calm waters, and traditional Slovenian architecture.

Why do we do this Slovenia Photo Tour at this time of year?

The choice of date for this trip is not a coincidence. Traveling at the beginning of summer allows us to easily access all locations, taking advantage of the Milky Way for our night sessions, and capturing alpine flora in its full glory. The lakes and rivers, full after the thaw, and the vivid greens of spring, provide a perfect backdrop for landscape photography.

Participants will have the company and guidance of our expert photographers, who will offer assistance in capturing the best images of the environment, providing tips and teachings on various photographic techniques. You will receive personalized attention, adjusted to your skill level, ensuring that you achieve outstanding captures.

Finally, no specific photographic equipment is required to participate. Any camera is sufficient to enjoy and make the most of the expedition. Although a list of recommended photographic equipment is provided later, it is not mandatory, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience with the equipment they have.

SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: TARVISIO

After the group meeting at the Marco Polo International Airport in Venice, we will head directly to our first destination, Tarvisio, in the mountains of northeastern Italy, near the borders with Slovenia and Austria. In the surroundings of this beautiful village, we will photograph stunning alpine lakes, as well as waterfalls and beautiful mountain views.

For the first sunset of the trip, we will visit one of the Fusine Lakes, the Inferiore, which usually offers magnificent reflections of the impressive mountains in front of it. The area around us, with its sublime beauty, will invite us to stay here until dark, providing an excellent opportunity for blue hour photography.

After the session, we will go to rest at our accommodation.

DAY 2 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: TARVISIO

Today we will photograph the first sunrise of the trip at another nearby lake, the impressive Lake Predil. Here, we will find a small island by the shore (depending on the water level, which decreases during the summer, the island may rejoin the shore). This small island, with several trees inside, reminds us of those famous scenes from Canada, like Spirit Island or Two Jack Lake. Undoubtedly, we are referring to a place with extraordinary photographic potential, which will delight all travelers.

After breakfast, we will travel to a nearby waterfall, which we will photograph from a cave located beneath it. This location undoubtedly evokes other famous waterfalls from places like Iceland. From our position, we will capture the waterfall in front of us, with the mountains in the background.

Next, we will return to the Fusine Lakes, this time visiting the Lago Superiore. We will arrive here in the afternoon, with enough time to make different compositions in the area. From here, we will photograph the sunset, capturing the last rays of light of the day as they illuminate the imposing mountains in the background. Once it is completely dark, we will return to our hotel to rest.

DAY 3 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: LAKE CAVAZZO AND FUSINE LAKES

Today we will rise early to photograph the sunrise, this time from the Fusine Superiore Lake.

After that, we will begin our journey east to head to our new destination, Slovenia.

DAY 4 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: SUNRISE AT FUSINE LAKES, LAKE BLED, AND CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY

In the afternoon, we will arrive at our destination, the incredible Lake Bled, one of the most iconic images in all of Europe. We will leave our luggage at our accommodation and head to photograph the lake from several of its most beautiful locations. We will remain in the area around the lake for the rest of the day, photographing the sunset by it, capturing the beautiful Church of the Assumption of Mary, located on an island in the lake.

After photographing the blue hour in this beautiful place, we will return to our accommodation to rest.

DAY 5 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: LAKE BLED

We will spend this day in the surroundings of Lake Bled, visiting the most photogenic locations nearby.

We will also visit several locations in the area, including a spectacular cave in the middle of a magical forest. Undoubtedly, a dreamlike setting where we can take fabulous photographs.

In the afternoon, we will revisit Lake Bled, photographing the sunset from a viewpoint located on a nearby hill.

DAY 6 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: SUNRISE AT LAKE BLED, SAINT THOMAS CHAPEL, AND PRIMOZ

Today we will rise early again to photograph the sunrise from another location at Lake Bled. To make the most of the fabulous photographic possibilities the area offers, we will spend all the necessary time in the same.

After our visit, we will move on to photograph the next locations of the trip, highlighting several churches in rural locations in this part of Slovenia. Some of these chapels are Saint Thomas and Primoz.

Next, we will move to the border area with Italy, where we will visit several waterfalls and canyons of extraordinary beauty. In these locations, we will have the perfect opportunity to practice long exposure photography, with the help of neutral density filters.

DAY 7 | SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR: KRNJSKA GORA AND LAKE BOHIJN

In addition, we will visit Lake Bohinj, another of the most iconic locations in northwestern Slovenia, a truly dreamy place.

RECOMMENDED PHOTO GEAR FOR THE SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR

You can request more details in the "information" tab.

Camera

DSLR or MIRRORLESS CAMERA RECOMMENDED

We recommend you to bring a DSLR or Mirrorless system camera with interchangeable lenses, but you can join the photo tour bringing any kind of camera, including compact ones, or even a smartphone.

Wide Angle Lens

For example, a 14-24mm or a 16-35mm

A wide-angle lens will be of great value for photographing the beautiful Julian Alps, as well as for nighttime photography sessions. Additionally, it will allow us to capture fantastic close-up shots.

Standard Zoom

For example, a 24-70MM

An standard zoom, like a 24-70mm, or a 24-105mm, will be very useful on this trip. With that focal length range, you will be able to capture a great variety of the scenes we’ll find.

TELEPHOTO LENS

FOR EXAMPLE, A 70-200MM

A 70-200mm telephoto lens will be very useful for capturing closer shots of the spectacular peaks of the Julian Alps, so it is a highly recommended lens for this trip.

FAST LENS FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS

FOR EXAMPLE, A 14MM 1'8 OR A 20MM 1'4

A fast lens such as a 20mm f/1.4 or 14mm f/1.4 would provide the best results for our night photography sessions, although a wide-angle lens like the ones mentioned before will be more than enough.

TRIPOD

A STURDY TRIPOD

For low light situations such as sunrises and sunsets, as well as for night photography, a good tripod will be necessary, as stable as possible, while keeping the weight within reason.

PHOTOGRAPHY FILTERS

ND, GRADUATED AND POLARIZER FILTERS

Neutral density filters are recommended, as they will be very useful for achieving long exposures. Graduated filters are also recommended for scenes with high contrast, as well as a polarizing filter.

REMOTE CONTROLLER

REMOTE CONTROLLER OR INTERVALOMETER

Bringing a remote or an intervalometer will be a great idea, because they will be very useful in low light sessions, avoiding the need to touch the camera, and therefore minimizing the risk of moved images.
